Readout of the Congressional Black Caucus' Meeting with President Obama

WASHINGTON,DC (Link)- Today, Members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) met with President Barack Obama about voting rights, education, poverty and economic issues, and immigration reform in theEisenhower Executive Office Building. 

During the meeting, CBC Members discussed the urgency of addressing high student loan interest rates and changes to the Parent PLUS loan program that have adversely impacted students and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); ways to address poverty and the high unemployment rate within the African American community; and ways to increase opportunities for minority small business owners in both urban and rural communities. The CBC also discussed how critical comprehensive immigration reform is to immigrants of all nationalities and to raising the quality of life for American workers.

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision on the Voting Rights Act, the President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to fighting discriminatory practices in voting requirements across the country and to working with the CBC on legislation that protects every American's right to vote. President Obama committed to working with the CBC on targeted strategies to address unemployment among African Americans and highlighted the importance of passing immigration reform legislation that includes immigrants of African andCaribbean descent. The President was also receptive to many recommendations posed by the CBC to address issues facing our nation's vulnerable communities, including the10-20-30 targeted plan to end poverty.

President Obama: Stop the War on Women

The No FEAR Coalition, Network for Women's Equality (Net-WE) and Occupy Washington, DC applaud the courage of twelve women at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) who have filed a class complaint against USDA Secretary TomVilsack that included President Barack Obama because their protests of being sexually harassed and retaliated against have been ignored by the administration. 

At the USDA Forest Service, Alicia Dabney, a Native American female firefighter, endured humiliation at the hands of her supervisor and male peers that included sexually explicit comments.  A year ago, the USDA Coalition of Minority Employees had a rally outside the USDA headquarters to protest this case and others in the Forest Service.  "We met with representatives of the White House, Secretary Vilsack and his staff to discuss widespread civil rights violations, after which Secretary Vilsack personally apologized for the failure to address these issues.  But, in spite of his apology, Ms. Dabney was fired and the perpetrators are still employed," said Lawrence Lucas, President of the Coalition.  The No FEAR Coalition has posted a youtube of Ms. Dabney's supervisor's call ordering her to his bedroom at: www.marshacoleman-adebayo, look under the women whistle tab. Lesa Donnelly, representing the USDA women in their class action asked, "What kind of message does this send to other women in the Department of Agriculture?  We have tried to get the administration to address these issues and take positive corrective actions on behalf of the victims.  We have written letters, we have marched, we have protested, all to no avail. Instead, the response has been, "We hear your words and take them seriously."  Donnelly continued, "How seriously are these incidents being taken, when sexual assaults, attempted rapes, and workplace violence are ignored and the women are further victimized. Nothing seems to get the attention of the people in this administration."

 

In response to the announcement of the USDA class action, Susan Morris, President of Net-WE and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) whistleblower, said "There is a war on women currently going on in the Federal government and it is not only at USDA."  After a lengthy investigation by the Office of Special Counsel, Morris was found to have been retaliated against by senior leaders at EPA for exposing violations of civil rights laws and regulations, but the agency has failed to take corrective action.  "Many EPA female employees have contacted me to talk about EPA management's institutionalized and abusive methods of destroying their personal and professional lives.  They are using performance improvement plans, unnecessary investigations, false accusations and even attempt to have employees criminally prosecuted.  It's really an evil and disgraceful environment that has no place in our government or democracy," said Morris. "The President needs to step up and tell his political appointees to stop the war on women that is taking place on his watch."  

The War on women has moved from simply crushing the careers of women at the Agency to pressing criminal charges. A young woman was recently taken out of EPA in handcuffs to spend the night in jail.  Other whistleblowers have met a similar fate. Including incarceration in federal prison. The whistleblower to prison pipeline must end, said Dr. Marsha Coleman-Adebayo, president of the No FEAR Coalition.

"Occupy Washington DC stands in solidarity with the twelve women whistleblowers who are being retaliated against for standing up for their rights to be treated with respect in the workplace and who's request for protection are being ignored" stated Dr. Margaret Flowers. "We call on President Obama to intercede in the USDA to protect the rights of these women who work under his administration and see that those who break the law are held accountable. All workers should feel safe from harassment in the United States."

We all have thought how we would like to help our neighbor, but we just dont know how!

After all, we dont know what makes our neighbor feel embarrassed or is that how we feel and think they may feel that way also?

There are Women out there fighting for their family and their personal right(s) to be treated fairly and equitably! They just want the due Process that is God given, is part of the rights afforded under the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights, and even the Rules and Regulations
in the Books of the USDA/Office of Civil Rights.

They women went to Washington D.C. in May 2012, looking for help for the individual circumstances,
but also as a strength together that their combined stories may help each other and also in turn others who may face similar situations, though most have individual circumstances all are part of the same Whistlblower
Summit that took place in May 2012, held in the Senate Hearing Room, with Senator Chas. Grassley.

I am asking for your help for these Brave Women and even Myself, please call your Congress and Senators
and tell them to help the Women from the Whistleblower Summit May 2012.
They were there with the No Fear Whistlblower Summit, and  The Coalition of USDA Minority Employees and Defrauded Farmers.

Send up Prayers for the quick action by Senate and Congress and even the President for what is RIGHT

Ms. Dabney works for the USDA Forest Service in California. On August 3, 2012 Alicia was fired after the USDA ignored numerous complaints and allegations of physical and sexual assault. Her male co-workers have physically and emotionally demeaned her by calling her a 'whore' after breaking into her hotel room where they attempted to rape her.

Alicia Dabney, GS-462-4 Apprentice Firefighter was fired from the Forest Service today. This occurred less than one week after she participated in the Whistle Blower/Human Rights & Civil Rights Summit in Washington. The California/Oregon women who traveled to Washington were accused by the Administration of practicing partisan politics. Pressure was levied. Threats were made from home. The women remained strong. Concerned, The Coalition and women went to several Senate offices to discuss the allegations and threats. They were told it would be taken care of with calls to the Secretary's Office. Seems it didn't work. The Agency has admitted they knew of these alleged charges against Alicia since July 2011, but coincidentally decided to fire her right after her trip to D.C. I was aware months ago that the Agency did an illegal background check on Alicia. It has been clear to me for quite some time that they would find any way possible to fire Alicia. If they didn't discredit her and fire her, they would have to fire the good old boy firefighters she made charges against. The managers who have allowed the harassment and assaults to happen repeatedly (including the Secretary and his staff) to Alicia would have to be held accountable. Realize, the male supervisor who sexually assaulted Alicia has had no action taken against him. He is currently still working on the crew that Alicia was fired from. I wonder which woman he'll assault on the next fire? Will she be afraid to come forward? Does this Administration care? No. The seasonal male firefighter who tried to break into her room last year was rehired this season on the crew. Clearly, they had no intention of dealing with the misconduct and criminal activity other than firing Alicia. The charges against her are ridiculous, of course. Months ago I knew they were going after her for alleged falsification of her application (they couldn't find anything real to get her on) and had her gather her documentation to disprove it. Alicia is a Native American woman. And, if anything proves that this Administration has a War on Women it is the treatment of Alicia - and the other Indigenous women (like the Wintu) who, among others we are getting ready to unite with, i.e. Walk in My Shoes across the Mare Island Bridge. Alicia has become the new Shirley Sherrod, but soooo much more typical of the Administration's War on Women.
