Subject: We're launching a massive campaign against Social Security cuts--are you in?
In less than two weeks, President Obama will release his annual budget—and last year's budget included the Chained CPI Social Security cut. While the conversation has changed towards Social Security expansion, statements from the White House in advance of the budget have not been encouraging. On Friday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was asked whether the Chained CPI would be in the president's budget. Here's what he had to say: "What I can tell you is the president has demonstrated in the past and continues -- and will continue to demonstrate his commitment to achieving additional deficit reduction that addresses our medium- and long-term challenges through a balanced approach." Please, donate today to keep the pressure on President Obama. Do not include Social Security cuts in your 2014 annual budget! One of the president's highest ranking economic advisors, when asked whether President Obama's budget would include Social Security cuts, responded that we needed to "wait and just see what's in the budget." That's not something we can accept when it comes to the foundation of our retirement security. This is coming from the staff of a president who included the Chained CPI cut in his 2013 budget proposal. Please, donate today to keep the pressure on President Obama. Do not include a Social Security cuts in your 2014 annual budget! After the President released his budget last year we were able to mobilize our allies immediately and stop the Chained CPI in its tracks. This year, we want to keep it out of the president's budget all together—but we can't do it without you. Please donate today to ensure that we are able to keep the pressure on President Obama! We must keep fighting until all of our elected officials receive the message loud and clear: expand, don't cut Social Security! Thank you for your continued generous support and for all that you do. Sincerely, Michael Phelan Social Security Works | |||||
