The DARK Truth

Dear Organic Consumer,
A few months ago, Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) introduced a piece of federal legislation now known as the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) ACT. If passed, the bill—written by the Biotech Bullies and Big Food—will strip your state of the right to pass a GMO labeling law.
Our best—and quite possibly only—hope of defeating this bill is for voters in Oregon and Colorado to pass Measure 92 (Oregon) and Proposition 105 (Colorado), two grassroots-led initiatives to label GMOs.
Both are on the ballot in November. And campaigns for both initiatives urgently need to invest in getting out the vote.
We are still shy of our third-quarter fundraising goal. Can you help us raise about $25,000 by midnight tomorrow—Monday, September 15? The money we raise will go toward supporting GMO labeling campaigns in November in Oregon, Colorado and other states in the coming months. Details on how to donate online, by phone or by email here.
I just came back from Portland, Oregon. The mood there is a mixed bag. Of hope. Of concern. Of daunting responsibility.
Activists and campaign staff in Oregon know that if Measure 92 fails, lawmakers in Washington D.C. will assume that consumers lack the clout and the collective will to make mandatory GMO labeling laws a reality in this country.
They know that if we lose in Oregon and Colorado in November, we will have a tougher time shutting down the DARK ACT in Congress.
This year's win in Vermont put us one step closer to mandatory labeling in this country. But the DARK Truth is this: It will be easy for Congress to dismiss "the little state of Vermont" unless we show them we can win in other states, too.
Oregon and Colorado are now the key battleground states for GMO labeling. What happens in those two states matters. To all of us.
Please help us raise about $25,000 by midnight tomorrow—Monday, September 15. So we can get out the vote in Oregon and Colorado. And get Monsanto out of our food.  Details on how to donate online, by phone or by email here.
Thank you!
