CREDO action
Tell President Obama: Reject Social Security cuts like Chained CPI
The petition reads:
"President Obama: Don't propose cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits in your budget or the State of the Union speech. If you want to address rising income inequality, as you have recently said, supporting Chained CPI and other benefit cuts is precisely the wrong thing to do."

Dear melissa,
Tell President Obama: No cuts to Social Security
Early last year, President Obama proposed a budget that included cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits.
It was nothing less than a preemptive cave to Republicans in the president's deeply wrongheaded quest to strike a grand bargain on taxes and the debt.
This year, we need to make sure President Obama does not repeat the same mistake twice by proposing benefit cuts in his budget. And we need to act now, before President Obama potentially doubles down on benefit cuts in Tuesday's State of the Union address.

President Obama used a recent public appearance to hammer home the need to address rising income inequality in the United State. He's talking the talk, but now we need to push him to walk the walk.
Far from addressing income inequality, cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits would only exacerbate the problem.
The most far-reaching of the benefit cuts in President Obama's last budget (known as "Chained CPI"), would dramatically reduce already modest benefits to both retirees and disabled veterans over time.
Chained CPI would also slowly but steadily raise taxes on parts of the working and middle class.
There is nothing smart, tough or pragmatic about proposing policies that will push more seniors into poverty. And this is especially the case when the proposed policies are deeply, deeply unpopular.
Senators Bernie Sanders and Tom Harkin, two progressive champions, along with our friends at Social Security Works are already urging President Obama not to propose benefit cuts again.
Add your voice to the chorus of those telling President Obama that the only way out of the hole he's dug for himself is for him to stop digging. It's time to take cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits off the table.
