Farmers Conference In Albany, Georgia On February 15-16, 2013

 Hear from the Juan Garcia, the Administrator of USDA's Farm Service Agency

On February 15 and 16,  2013 the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund will hold it's 30th Annual Farmers Conference in Albany, Georgia. For both days, Women and Hispanic Farmers will be assisted with their claim forms in the lawsuit against the USDA, and assistance will also be offered to farmers with their agriculture census forms. There will be a dinner at the hotel at 6PM on Friday night with Shirley Sherrod as keynote followed by a book signing event; and Juan Garcia of the USDA's Farm Service Agency will be speaking on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, February 15, from 1-4PM there will be workshops on farm progrShirley bookams, food safety, value added production, estate planning, agroforestry, computer training and the Women/Hispanic lawsuit.

This will be followed with the 6PM dinner with a keynote address by Shirley Sherrod.

As mentioned, there will also be an opportunity for those attending to purchase the recent book by Mrs. Sherrod, The Courage to Hope, and have the book signed.

February 15, from 9AM to 3PM, there will be plenary session workshops on cooperatives and food safety;  an update of the Farm Bill with Congressman Sanford Bishop and others; a USDA panel with representatives from NRCS, FSA, Rural  Development and NASS (Census); and a panel on the Women/Hispanic lawsuit.

Importantly, on Saturday there will be comments by Juan Garcia, Administrator of the USDA's Farm Service Agency. This will also include a question and answer period.

"We look forward to seeing you at the conference" said Ralph Paige, Executive Director of the Federation. "It is a time to meet and learn more about all the various aspects of farming and policy that are helpful to farmers and what farmers need to know to assist them now and in the future."
