Alicia Dabney's news story was the beginning of our decision to get attention to the Vilsack/Obama War on Women. The local paper interviewed us because of all the problems they see happening under Kevin Elliott's management (including his recent decision to put firefighters who were observed doing drugs out on the fire line. Someone is going to die.) Todd Akin verbalized his sexist attitudes toward women and everyone came unglued. Well, Randy Moore has pretty much done the same thing in this letter in a more subtle way. He is stating that the women who have been sexually harassed, sexually assaulted, physically assaulted, spit on, forced to urinate in front of male coworkers, stalked, threatened, humiliated and terminated for reporting it are liars. Right now there are several men who have been observed taking and/or selling drugs on government time and it was reported to Randy Moore and Robin Heard. Right now there are women who have observed men threatening, intimidating and behaving violent in the workplace and it was reported to Randy Moore and Robin Heard. They have done nothing to these men, yet they terminated Alicia for allegedly failing to report on her application that she owed the government money for a welfare conviction that occurred before she was hired. As a firefighter, Alicia had perfect conduct and performance. We reported to the Secretary, Robin Heard and Randy Moore that USFS Special Agent Michelle Sarubbi, (who on 7/12/11 was supposed to be investigating the man who assaulted Alicia, and who on 7/14/11 performed an illegal criminal background check on Alicia) had been arrested for drunk driving with her firefighter boyfriend (both were arrested) a few weeks earlier. First, NOTORIOUS conduct from the Special Agent's DUI and then ILLEGAL conduct to perform an investigation on Alicia who had just reported being sexually harassed and assaulted. Yet, Alicia is the one who was terminated. I've had complaints that Angeles NF Supervisor Tom Contreras' behaviors toward women are intimidating, sexually harassing, and verbally abusive. Women are afraid of him. Yet Contreras is still the Forest Supervisor. As you said, "The Band Plays On." How long is this Administration going to allow/condone this WAR on WOMEN???? Unfortunately, the Administration's silence is seen as participating in the discrimination. Therefore, approximately a dozen women will be filing EEO complaints against Tom Vilsack and Barack Obama next week. This is a very, very sad state of affairs. To have to file a discrimination complaint against your own President? I don't know what this country has come to when the President (who created the White House Council on Women and Girls) refuses to stop the abuse of his own federally employed women...lesa
p.s. Just got a new call from a Native American woman who is enduring racial slurs and bullying while at work for the Forest Service.
