Sierra Club - Explore, enjoy and protect the planet

Dear Melissa,

Redwoods

What's your favorite place outdoors?

For me, it's a special spot in the redwoods of Northern California. My wife Mary and I love to hike and camp with our children, Sebastian and Olivia, at our favorite state park. Each time we visit, I feel their connection to nature deepen.

How about you? Tell us what your Piece of America is, share it with your friends and family --  and then take action to protect it.

Unfortunately, many of America's special wild places are under attack from mining, drilling, and fracking. Someday soon, our children may not have these amazing places outdoors to play and learn. That's why we're launching an ambitious campaign that urges President Obama to permanently protect these special wild places, ensuring that our great-great grandchildren can enjoy them just like we do.

And that's why we've created a powerful online tool called My Piece of America, where you can upload a photo of your favorite place and urge people to take grassroots action to protect our outdoors. By uploading your photo, you'll be sharing in a huge movement of people who are taking action to protect our wild places.

Big Oil and Gas may have the money and the lobbyists, but we believe that your images of America's amazing outdoors can speak for themselves, inspiring people to take action for our wild places.

Show us your favorite piece of America by uploading a photo of your favorite place outdoors.

We've kicked things off by uploading photos of 19 special places that we can protect now. These are places like the Grand Canyon Watershed, ancient forests in the Northwest, and Florida's Everglades.

Your favorite place could be that perfect lookout in the Rocky Mountains, or a narrow gorge of red rock deep in the Grand Canyon. Or it could be the public park around the corner where your daughter played her first T-ball game, or the place where you learned to swim (like my own runner-up, the Jersey shore, where I spent every summer day at the beach).

These outdoor treasures belong to all of us, and we all have our own reasons for loving them. Share your place and your reason here -- and fight back against the corporate campaign to destroy these places.

Thank you for everything you do for our environment,
