Dear Melissa,

Thousands of years in the making, Giant Sequoia National Monument is now home to one-half of all the giant sequoia trees left in the world.

Now these ancient giants are facing destruction from reckless and misguided logging.

The U.S. Forest Service continues to endorse logging in this national treasure. This is an ineffective tactic that only destroys these historic trees.

We are fighting to change this, we have built tremendous support, and Secretary Vilsak and the Forest Service are listening.

That's why we need your help. Tell Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsak, to adopt strong protections that will halt all industrial logging in Giant Sequoia National Monument – Sign our petition today!

Ending logging will ensure that spectacular sites like the Boole Tree, one of the largest trees in the world, will be preserved for generations to come. It will also guarantee healthy wildlife habitat for unique species such as the spotted owl and pacific fisher.

The battle to protect these sequoias began over one hundred years ago when Sierra Club founder, John Muir, first won protections for many of the most spectacular giant sequoias. Then in 2000, President Clinton carried on this legacy by establishing the Giant Sequoia National Monument.

Now it is your turn to finish the job. Sign our petition today and help provide permanent protections for these ancient trees – before it is too late.

Thank you for all you do to help us protect the environment.

Sincerely,
Sarah Hodgdon Signature
