That's so coal

Dear Melissa,

Bob Ross painting mountaintop removal coal mining? Really, Mr. Coal Guy?

Bob Ross MTR

You won't believe the lengths these coal executives will go to cover up the dirty truth. Watch the videos and create your own coal story!

We've all seen the misleading ads the dirty coal industry runs -- promoting non-existent, "clean coal" technology...glossing over the facts about pollution of coal...they're preposterous.

Check out our new online campaign MrCoalGuy.com - a behind-the-scenes look at how coal executives create ridiculous T.V. ads to spin their way out of the dirty truth about coal.

From using Bob Ross's timeless landscape painting to cover up mountaintop removal coal mining, to a coal executive 'beach party' scene, these videos feature Mr. Coal Guy using iconic TV shows from the 1980's as a funny send up of just how desperate dirty fossil fuel execs are to keep our country chained to the dirty, outdated 19th-century energy source.

We know better. We know that coal-fired power plants have destroyed over 500 mountains in Appalachia, that they cause 200,000 asthma attacks each year and that the pollution from these plants is the number one source of toxic mercury pollution which makes its way into our bodies through the fish we eat. We know moving beyond coal to clean energy is key to a prosperous future.

Check out our Mr. Coal Guy and his unbelievable videos and then make your own coal story.

Once you watch the videos, we'll put you in the director's chair - mix and match pictures of Mr. Coal Guy to share your own coal story. Together we can use a little humor to push back and show just how ridiculous the coal industry's multi-million dollar advertising campaigns are to hide the dirty truth about coal.

Thanks for all you do to protect the environment,

Mary Anne Hitt
