Stand with Julia Trigg: Don't let a Canadian oil company break up her Texas farm
Sign the Petition

Dear melissa,

The problem: Massive oil company TransCanada is threatening to use eminent domain to seize Julia Trigg's Texas family farm -- and build the Keystone XL pipeline right through it.

The hero: Julia Trigg is fighting back, and calling on senior Texas officials to help protect the farm that's been in her family since 1948.

The other hero: You! Sign Julia Trigg's petition now. A huge showing will generate media pressure on Governor Perry and Senators Cornyn and Hutchinson to stand up for the property rights of Texans against a foreign oil company.

Here's a lot more info about Julia Trigg's fight. And you can read more about it on her petition, too.

Julia Trigg owns a farm in Direct, Texas that's been in her family since 1948.  But now her family legacy, and the health of her entire community, are in danger: Canadian oil giant TransCanada is trying to seize part of her property to build a massive pipeline through her farm.

TransCanada is the company behind the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline that would transport oil from Canada to Texas, a plan rejected by President Obama in January. But TransCanada is trying to move forward with the pipeline -- sidestepping the President's decision and ignoring global protest.

Julia Trigg's farm is standing in TransCanada's way, and she's asking for help from the very top of the Lone Star State to stand up to the mega-company.  She started a petition on Change.org asking for Texas Governor Rick Perry and her senators to tell TransCanada it can't have Julia Trigg's farm.

Experts say TransCanada's proposed pipeline would expose tens of millions of people to hazardous risks when the pipeline leaks.  The company's other pipeline has sprung leaks more than a dozen times already. If TransCanada pushes the pipeline through, clean drinking water for 1 million Midwesterners and 60 counties in Texas would be at risk.

If TransCanada is allowed to dismiss the legal authority of American landowners and Texas courts, the precedent is clear: other family farms along the proposed route of the Keystone XL Pipeline could be in jeopardy.

Thanks for being a changemaker,
