Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund who is facing attempted rape charges in Manhattan, announced his resignation late Wednesday night.
In a statement, Strauss-Kahn said he is resigning "with infinite sadness" and in an effort "to protect this institution."
