This method of deception has been carefully crafted, leaving a clear path of destruction for the real criminals in the Jesuit Order and the U.S. government simply by deflecting any criticism or knowledge of their active involvement in destroying the liberties and freedom of the American people.
With that said, there still is much to cover about the Jesuit Order, as more than 400 years of lost and stolen history cannot be recovered in seven short weeks. However, this week we shall use Confession No. 8 on the shores of Brushy Creek to recap our first seven sessions, as next week we will embark on two more months of studying the Jesuit Order, concentrating on the numerous countries they have been expelled from and concentrating on their present worldwide organization.

Secret services such as the CIA, the KGB, MI6 are controlled by them. Presidents are elected and Popes and Presidents are killed by them. They are the army of the Vatican in control of the Vatican. They hide behind secret societies which they control and corporations they own like Microsoft, Bank of America, Lockheed and many more.

Jews and the Jesuits
The Jews have long been a of whipping dog of the Jesuit controlled Vatican. As the killers of Jesus time and again they have been made to suffer and more so as a competitor to Christianity!
Among their ranks of any group are always individuals recognizing their true worth as the lap dogs of their Jesuit masters. The use of secret societies facility the identification of suitable individuals. These individuals for example selected Jews often serve the Brotherhood of Jesus quite well.

Terrorism and the Jesuits
Oh the power of the fabrications! Like the Cold War, Terrorism is designed to consolidate power while slaughtering heretics while training a new crop of butchers for the next round of the Jesuit inquisitions. The known abuses in Iraq are only the tip of the iceberg. Many abuses of women and children are well underway. Soldiers are being psychologically brutalized by being told to randomly kill women and children civilians.
The goal of course is to further and further infuriate the Moslem youth and further and further promote a negative image of the United States around the world. Al-Qaida is nothing more than a CIA run operation of the noble Jesuit Brotherhood. Osama Bin Ladin merely a lap dog of the great Jesuit Order doing as instructed.
The involvement of the "Terrorist" in events like 9/11 is only for show, a cover story to motivate the sheep in the United States and Britain. Of course, the individuals who apply to join the ranks of groups like Al-Qaida believe they work for a noble cause with a real enemy. But the only real enemy of the world is the heretic unfaithful to the holy work of the Jesuit Controlled Black Pope and his Vatican. The Moslem is as much a heretic and will just as much come to be owned and destroyed under the Jesuit ideals.
Secret Service and the Jesuits
The brotherhood of Jesus, the Jesuit Society is from inception and by design a covert army of spies and assassins. The Jesuits marvelous success has come in no small part from it's own organization. The Jesuits have applied this "Need to Know" and "Above Top Secret" hierarchical design to the establishment of security services around the world. The good Jesuit Brothers have gaining inside access either through the fabricated "Religious" pretext or through controlling influences within secret societies. The Jesuit victory has come in part from it's high level ownership of the CIA, FBI, MI5, MI6, Mosad, KGB/FSB and many other national security organizations. All these organizations are patterned for their success after the Jesuit order itself!
One of the most notable examples was the Jesuit Nazi SS from whose ranks came many of the early CIA members with good skills in torture and mind manipulation. With the solidification of "Need to Know" privacy in the CIA and with the gradual removal of over site authority and accountability the CIA today stands untouchable and in near full control of the United States. Events such as the JFK assassination and 9/11 demonstrate the agencies facility at perpetrating and managing the backlashes as they occur. In conjunction with the control held over the FBI and the NSA and the Information media future events will continue to occur as planned. The work of FEMA in prepare underground shelters for the privileged and concentration camps for the heretics is equally commendable.
The Secret Services have also managed properties to serve the brotherhood. Such properties include the drug trade and it's equally profitable drug war. Sex slavery is now a more profitable enterprise than drugs and with it the profits from selective law enforcement. All such activities serve to assist the brotherhood in managing the training and dependency of law enforcement services and training from the national level. This facilitates putting distance between the Law Enforcement personnel and the "Citizen".
Just as the Jesuits are not subject to the authority of the Vatican neither are the Secret Services subject to the authority of the country in this they are positioned. With the CIA for example the "Above Top Secret" , "Need to Know" and "Plausible Deniability" rationales put the CIA above and independent of the President and the Congress.
Puppets and the Jesuits
The Brotherhood has gained systematic control of the United States over the last 150 years. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Nixon, Carter, Clinton and the Bushes have all been the orders useful lap dogs. With the wealth of the Federal Reserve, Stalin was successfully raised to power. The "Communist" purch of the Russian Orthodox was very successful. Hitler was another such pawn who served the order well. Pol Pot, Mao, many others.

Cold War and the Jesuits
The cold war served the order in many wonderful ways. At the end of the 2nd world war China and Russia where only slightly more advanced than they would have been in the 1800's! The Russia heretical orthodox had been enduring the brotherhoods inquisition under the lap dog Stalin. China was just beginning the cleansing and reforming inquisition of the Buddhist / Taoist heretics via lap dog Mao. Neither country was capable of opposing the United States. For the purges to go unopposed the people of the United States needed to believe that it could not interfere in the internal politics of these countries without a global nuclear war resulting. With this pretext and the brotherhoods control of the media (including the new media of television) this was not difficult to do. Providing the nuclear technology to the Soviets was a key initial tactic and at the appropriate time the Chinese where provided the technology as well. This made them viable threats to the public and the established heretical elements in the military but in reality both countries were well under Jesuit control via their Secret Services.
The cold war provided additional revenue through the "military / industrial" complex owned by the Jesuit Brotherhood. It was a time of intense misdirection against the infidel protestants. The Korean war and Vietnam war allowed the the Americans to slaughter the heretic Buddhists and indigenous populations under the guise of "fighting communism". The American people where lead to believe they where helping oppose communism. when in reality they where simple slaughtering infidels for the Jesuit order and to it's great satisfaction!
With the establishment of the CIA by the lap dog Truman gradual deepening of control over American was being finalized. The CIA where initially staffed from Nazi SS mind and body inquisitors trained and cultivated during the 3rd Reich by the Jesuit order. Black is white and white is black is a motto of the high Jesuit Brotherhood. What the people are told is far from what is really happening.
Promotion of equality, animal rights and the environment helped to facilitate an expanded influence of the top down government against the individual states and the heretic population during this period.
Social protests against the Vietnam War helped to create the needed split between the population and the government. It was in this split that the Jesuit servant Nixon could initiate the end of the Gold Standard. Later with Carter the clear independent authority of the CIA could be justified.
9/11 and the Jesuits
9/11 is one of the Jesuit Brotherhoods latest achievements! The demolition of the towers was a carefully planned event used for multiple purposes:
1. To solidly establish the fabricated "Terrorist" phase just as the fabricated "Cold War" had been established previously with Korea and Berlin.
2. To further concentrate the central government in the United States via the "Patriot Act" and the Office of Homeland security.
3. Via the Iraq aggressions, turn the world towards the Brotherhood controlled United Nations and strongly cultivate an anti-American / anti-British view.
4. To further dilute the number of US troops in the continental United States by driving them off shore for events like Afghanistan and Iraq.
5. To cultivate and train the heretic Muslim youth as a future military force to be used against the United States.
6. To justify the FEMA construction of concentration camps within the United States for the coming inquisition of the heretic nation.
7. To see the United States as a bully yet vulnerable.
Central Government and the Jesuits
Key in early plans for the New World Order of the Jesuit Vatican army was the conquest of the heretic Protestant America. Essential for this to occur was the great US Civil War. In the post civil war confusion and desperation lay the opportunity for establishing the US Central Government. This was accomplished by the forced introduction of the 14th Amendment. This amendment to the US Constitution reversed the entitlement of the citizen. No longer was an individual a citizen of their state which was in reality an independent country and then a member of the United States. After the 14th amendment the individual was a member of the United States and living in a state within it. With this change of membership came the means of centralized control. Under the early republic model the "United States" as an organization owned nothing and had no entitlements. It was granted by the states necessary funds, manpower and other resources only upon approval by the states. The Central Government which came into existence resulted in a powerful facility for central control and extortion necessary to the great goals of the Jesuit order. With the change of authority came a strong and independent Federal military, a higher authority over state activities via the Supreme Court and the establishment of central government "services" used to maximize control and obligation of the states.
The Central Government once established pursued it's role of subjugating the state authority and the population at large. The Bureau of Land Management and the National Forest Service and Park Service began taking land of the States as a ploy to limit the dispersion of the population.
The Central Government was also used to support the patent system. Patents rarely serve the interest o f the inventor.
Controlling Population, Education, Media and the Jesuit Order
Success of the Jesuit Masters required great influence in all aspects of the heretics life. The heretic must be managed physically, emotionally and psychologically. Fortunately most human beings are little more than sheep. They need the strong hand of the good Shepard to protect and guide the flock towards the light. The wolves (heretics) are ever at the door and the sheep can in weakness be mislead. The heretics can in some cases be brought to their senses by force and by redirection. Control of the individual requires control of the sources of information and the ways in which information is presented to them. Control of education is one such method used by the Jesuit Order. With a high degree of influence in the educational system and the material published for it you gain control of what is taught and what is forbidden. By setting standards for what is "knowledge" you further that control. This has facilitated directing the academics attention away from the Jesuit perpetration and on irrelevance and fantasy created by the Jesuit Order.
With control of the News Media you further this task. Fabricated Academics when combined with the news media have served the brotherhood remarkably well! No greater example exists than that of the Einstein fabrication. Einstein came about as an effort to take the publics attention from Nikola Tesla and the legitimate practice of science and engineering. Using Einstein fabricated physics a complete misdirection of scientific training could be achieved. The real science in the advanced forms has been available only to a limited few. Einstein is was one of the orders finest lap dogs and a good example of the use of Masonic Jewish Zionist in service of the great Jesuit cause.
A recent example may also help to make this strategy clear. A school teacher asked her students to find the bad and the good that came out of Nazi Germany. The media where instructed to criticize the teacher under the pretext of her wishing to make light of the slaughter of the Jews. (inquisition :-> ) By attacking her In this way teachers in general are put into fear lest they loose their positions or standing teaching what is not on the official agenda. Fear of acting independently enforce in teachers the need to stick to the books and not to teach or encourage the students to think independently. The film industry is almost entirely controlled by the Illustrious Jesuit Brotherhood. By the standard ploy and for the heretics consumption the media is presented as being in Jewish control. A number of Jewish Lap Dogs serve this purpose.
Slowly the film industry is presenting the good Catholic and the bad heretic. For example the recent film "The Body" portrays a kind and gentle Jesuit priest is attacked by the Jews. In film, conspiracies are made light of as being simply constructed, easily detected and easily overcome. This continually enforces the idea of conspiracy posing no real threat or being simply a ridiculous idea to being with. Validating and invalidating is an effective tactic. "If such things as conspiracies exist don't worry they are harmless and short lived" this is the idea being conveyed.

Ignatius was born at Loyola in the Spanish Basque country in 1491. He adopted a military career, and upon being wounded in the leg at the seige of Pampeluna he was obliged to undergo a long convalescence. During this time, he underwent a fantastic "Spiritual Transformation". Being without the Tales of Chivalry which formed his favorite reading, Ignatius Loyola turned his attention to Religious books, while convalescing. And being that Ignatius was a military man- at this time, he came to the conclusion, while reading the Religious books, that his Church too- needed to have it's own "Army". It was this that prompted Loyola to form the Army of The Society of Jesus for the Roman Catholic Church, otherwise known as the Jesuit Order. Ignatius and his six friends founded the Jesuit Order in 1534, and it received official Papal sanction in the year 1540. Ignatius became the Jesuit Order's first General.
Well, there is no way to break this news gently to you, and so I will just go ahead and say it. The Founder of the Jesuit Order, Ignatius Loyola, was a Witch! Literally! Ignatius belonged to a Witchcraft Group called THE ILLUMINATI, in his native tongue called "The Los Alumbrados". (See Encyclopedia Brittanica, Vol. 14, 1910, pg. 320) The ancient name for Babylonian Mysticism (or finding ways to get in touch with "The One", "The All", or Satan) was called "Illuminism". The Babylonians who were initiated into the Mystery Religion were said to be in posession of Illumination or THE INNER LIGHT. Supposedly, this meant they had been ENLIGHTENED or aware of the fact that they were gods. (See Encyclopedia Brittanica, Vol. 14, 1910, pg. 320) The Western equivalent to this Eastern Mysticism is the Hermeticism or Gnosticism that we have talked about earlier in previous articles. The Gnostics were said to posess the secret knowledge that they were in reality, "Little gods", and that Lucifer was the rightful Ruler of this World! The name Lucifer actually means Morning Star or The Illuminated One. Thus, the various Mystery Religions taught that it is Lucifer (or Satan) who gives us light and shows us that we are God and have no need of repentence, but that we need only realize the "God within" and bring it to it's full potential. Various Secret Societies throughout the Ages have taught this Babylonian Mysticism, because they knew that these Mysteries were based upon the doctrine of Luciferianism. They were known for centuries as "The Illuminati". Their name was derived from Lucifer's name: "The Illuminated One". And it is nothing more than WITCHCRAFT! Now remember the association we discovered that the Freemasonry also has with The Illuminati; just keep that in mind.
It is interesting to note that when some Witches perform their magic, they first go into a fasting period (go without food), and meditate, to seek "inner purity". This is done in preparation to speak with demons, or with Satan himself: "At the exact moment when the fasting (for inner purity) has produced it's purpose- that is, inner illumination, a secret, ecstatic sensation of total unity with the Universe (occurs)." -Witchcraft and the Mysteries, pg 77. Well now... doesn't THAT sound familiar! ...the same 'ole New Age goal of becoming one with the All, or with the "Universe!" Now you have to keep in mind, we are talking about the illuminism of both the Freemasons and the Jesuits of the Roman Catholic Church. (Also keep in mind that Adam Weishaupt of the Freemason's Illuminati was a Jesuit himself) After preparing themselves in this way, to speak with the demons or with Satan, the Witch will stand inside of a "Magic Circle" which they call "The Field of Force" (this has to do with the pantheistic idea that God is a force of nature). Supposedly, the Witch is able to draw down the powers or forces of nature and contain them within this field of force or Magic Circle, with which to perform their magic spells. After the Witch has done all of his fasting and meditating, for the purpose of purifying himself, he is then ready to call down the "Spirits" who will grant his wishes. Once within this Magic Circle, the Witch says the following words: "GREAT MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.... swiftly execute my wishes... I summon you by the great names full of power, OF THE ILLUMINATI OF THE FIRMAMENT... appear to me as I avoke the sacred influence of all the principalities and powers... Do you come in peace through THE POWER OF THE EXALTED ILLUMINATI? Will you serve me and reveal all things unto me of land and sea, of knowledge and wisdom, of good and bad, of natural law and of sorcery?" -Witchcraft and the Mysteries, pages 83-85. Okay, I would say that we are on to something, don't you agree? Remember all of the things we have talked about, in regards to the "Great Masters of the firmament?" Recall that I have told you in previous articles that in the New Age Movement, those who supposedly have died and gone up to live in the sky or the "firmament" are called "The Great Masters!" These are demonic entities! (note that the term "natural law" was mentioned also, which we will discuss in a later article). Now, I want you to keep these things lodged in your mind, because when we look at some of the things that the Founder of the Jesuits, Ignatius Loyola practiced- it will make you see the Jesuit Order in a whole new light! You will see them for what they truly are, and that is- a Roman Catholic New Age Army of Witches, used to infiltrate Society! It is obvious then that the "Illuminati" that these witches communicate with is none other than Satan himself and his demons! In France, under the name Illumines, a Witchcraft School appeared in Picary in 1623, but only continued a short time because of the repressive measures taken by the Papacy. However, another sect of Illumines appeared in the South of France in about 1722 AD, and continued until 1794. They traced their origin to the Gnostics (see Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 14, 1910, pg. 320). Another such school of Witchcraft was found in Spain around the year 1520 AD, and was called "Los Alumbrados". Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Jesuits was connected with this group. He himself almost became a victim of the Spanish Inquisition when the Roman Catholic Church got wind of his connection with the Los Alumbrados (the Illuminati). But he was aquitted before the Inquisition Court with only an admonition. It appears ln the surface that the Roman Catholic Church was against Ignatius belonging to this Witchcraft group, but obviously they did not punish him in any way for it. There are some who hold that the Illuminati group is a "front" for the Roman Catholic Church to unite the whole world under her banner again. After all, it was Ignatius Loyola himself who actually founded this Illuminati group! (also see Chick Publications, 1982, The Godfathers, pg. 1-11) So it comes down to this- Ignatius Loyola was the Founder of the Jesuit Order, the "Spiritual Army" of the Roman Catholic Church, and he was also the Founder of the Witchcraft group, The Illuminati! It is very clear that the Jesuit Army was merely a Witchcraft group that was used to spread Roman Catholic doctrine throughout the whole world! That is what the Jesuits are for... they are used to undo all that Protestantism has done, and to gain back lands and people that the Church has lost to Protestantism. |

The Mistick Krewe of Comus (founded in 1856) is a New Orleans, Louisiana Carnival krewe.
Prior to the advent of Comus, Carnival celebrations in New Orleans were mostly confined to the Roman Catholic Creole community, and parades were irregular and often very informally organized.Comus was organized by Anglo-Americans.
Formation & First Parade
In December 1856, six Anglo-American[1] New Orleans businessmen, formerly of Mobile, Alabama gathered at a club room above the now-defunct Gem Restaurant in New Orleans' French Quarter to organize a secret society to observe Mardi Gras in a less crude fashion.[2] The inspiration for the name came from John Milton's Lord of Misrule in his masque Comus. Part of the inspiration for the parade was a Mobile Carnival mystic society, with annual parades in Mobile, Alabama, called the Cowbellion de Rakin Society (from 1830),[3] of which businessman Joseph Ellison, was a member (a Mobile Cowbellion).[3]
One Mardi Gras historian describes the Mistick Krewe's creation in New Orleans thus:
- "It was Comus, who, in 1857, saved and transformed the dying flame of the old Creole Carnival with his enchanter's cup; it was Comus who introduced torch lit processions and thematic floats to Mardi Gras; and it was Comus who ritually closed, and still closes, the most cherished festivities of New Orleans with splendor and pomp."[4]
Comus' first night parade – replete with torches (which later came to be known as "flambeaux"), marching bands and rolling floats – was wildly popular with Carnival revelers. So popular was the first Comus parade that the prospect of its second one attracted, for the first time, thousands of out-of-town visitors to New Orleans for the Carnival celebration.[5]
Respite from Revelry
From the first Comus parade until a police strike in 1979, nothing suspended New Orleans' lavish Mardi Gras celebrations except war.[5] On March 1, 1862, Comus issued his first proclamation suspending Carnival revelry on account of war. On that day, the New Orleans Daily Picayune published this notice:
To Ye Mistick Krewe –
GREETINGS!
WHEREAS, War has cast its gloom over our happy homes and care usurped the place where joy is wont to hold its sway. Now, therefore, do I deeply sympathizing with the general anxiety, deem it proper to withhold your Annual Festival in this goodly Crescent City and by this proclamation do command no assemblage of the

Given under my hand this, the 1st day of March A.D. 1862.
COMUS
Comus issued an identical proclamation in 1917 (for World War I) and another in 1942 (for World War II) and again in 1951 (for the Korean War). On each occasion, the Captain of Comus persuaded the Captains of other Carnival organizations to refrain from organized revelry during hostilities.[2]
From 1885-1889, the Mistick Krewe chose not to parade, although other observances continued. During this period, the Krewe of Proteus moved its parade to Carnival night. When Comus resumed parading in 1890, Proteus refused a request to withdraw from parading on Carnival night. That year, the two parades collided on Canal Street, nearly reaching an impasse. As the Captains of the two groups exchanged defiant expressions, a Comus masker diverted the horse bearing the Captain of Proteus, and Comus was able to complete its procession.
Early Affiliation with Pickwick Club
Membership in Comus was historically associated with membership in the private Pickwick Club and for a time the two organizations were one. The two organizations severed all official ties in 1884. In modern times, the membership is not identical but it is believed that they have common members.
Carnival Secrecy & Exclusivity
Comus has jealously guarded the identities of its membership and the privacy of its activities (other than its parade), perhaps even more than other Carnival organizations that subscribe to the traditional code of Carnival secrecy. Carnival legend has it that admittance to the Mistick Krewe's ball was so highly sought-after that a group of uninvited ladies formed a flying wedge and attempted to force their way into the Comus ball. In other years, uninvited persons have tried to beg, buy or steal invitations to the Comus ball.[2] Even after the ball is over, Comus invitations are prized by collectors, as they are both uncommonly beautiful and rare.
The Meeting of the Courts
The Mistick Krewe of Comus also originated another Carnival tradition: the" Meeting of the Courts." The practice originated in 1892, when Rex (the King of Carnival) and his Queen paid a formal visit to the throne of Comus.[2] This ritualized meeting eventually evolved into the symbolic conclusion of the Mardi Gras season, a practice which continues to this day. Although Rex is the titular "King" of Carnival, some observers believe that the Meeting of the Courts – in which Rex leaves his own festivities and is received by a seated Comus at the Mistick Krewe's bal masque – establishes Comus as the more prestigious of the two organizations in the Carnival hierarchy.

The first Comus parade was held on Mardi Gras 1857, and this became an annual event. Other organizations sprang up in New Orleans in the 19th century, inspired by the Comus model, and also came to be known as "Krewes".
Parading on Mardi Gras night, Comus was the final parade of the New Orleans carnival season for over 100 years. It was much smaller and more sedate than the other parades of the day put on by Rex and the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club. The Comus parades became known for their sometimes obscure themes relating to ancient history and mythology. While other New Orleans parades might have themes like "Foods of the World" or "Broadway Show Tunes", Comus would present themes like "Serpent Deities of the Ancient Near East".
Withdrawal from Parading
In 1991 the New Orleans city council passed an ordinance that required social organizations, including Mardi Gras Krewes, to certify publicly that they did not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation, in order to obtain parade permits and other public licensure. In effect, the ordinance required these, and other, private social groups to abandon their traditional code of secrecy and identify their members for the city's Human Relations Commission. The Comus organization (along with Momus and Proteus, other 19th century Krewes) withdrew from parading rather than identify its membership.
Two federal courts later declared that the ordinance was an unconstitutional infringement on First Amendment rights of free association, and an unwarranted intrusion on the privacy of the groups subject to the ordinance. The decision of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals appears at volume 42, page 1483 of the Federal Reporter (3rd Series), or 42 F.3d 1483 (5th Cir. 1995). The Supreme Court refused to hear the city's appeal from this decision. Despite this, the krewe has not returned to the streets to parade.(Proteus later returned)
The Mistick Krewe of Comus still holds an annual ball on Mardi Gras night.

I Introduction and History
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps takes this moment in our history to affirm our relationship with
the Society of Jesus, to express our gratitude for the gifts and graces of being companions
in mission, and to envision new ways to participate in our common mission of building the
Kingdom of God. Our hope is to explore areas in which we can further our collaboration.
As we look to the future and reflect on our past, we remain committed to our mission of
forming men and women “to live always conscious of the poor, committed to the Church’s
mission of promoting justice in the service of faith.”
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) is honored to be noted in Decree 13 of the 34th General
Congregation as a “privileged means both for the Christian formation of lay people in
Ignatian spirituality and for partnership in a common mission.” (347) The leadership of
the Jesuit Volunteer Corps is grateful to the Society for its encouragement and, indeed, for
offering to us your inheritance, educational resources, and friendship. JVC has long known
these gifts; we treasure the level of partnership shown to JVC. Furthermore, we wish to
respond to the writings of Father Kolvenbach which we find both inspiring and challenging.
We want to dialogue with you about ongoing projects we are undertaking and areas in
which we can further our collaboration.
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps deeply values its “apostolic roots” in the Society of Jesus and
desires to find creative ways to assist Jesuits in the social apostolate in the United States and
in the developing world. JVC is guided in our choice of placements for the volunteers by
Ignatian principles (e.g., going where the need is greater, where other workers are lacking,
where conditions appear favorable).
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps brings young people together to work for social justice and gathers
them into faith communities meant to support their apostolic work. Community living
makes their apostolic work possible from an economic, spiritual, and learning perspective.
Jesuit volunteers are asked to embrace a life-style of simplicity, in solidarity with people
who are poor and in contrast to our culture’s focus on materialism and individuality. The
spiritual dimension of the life of Jesuit volunteers is expressed in the reflection they do on
their work and their prayer together to share and strengthen the faith that is the foundation
for their work.

These four dimensions – social justice, spirituality, community, and simplicity – are the
foundation of every Jesuit volunteer’s experience. Living out and reflecting on these core
ideals are the hallmarks of the JVC experience.
The first Jesuit volunteers were coworkers with Jesuits in their apostolates. In 1956 Jesuits
of the Oregon Province needed assistance at schools they had established in Alaska, and
men and women went to Copper Valley,Alaska, to respond to the need. Gradually,more and
more people came, and they were sent to other sites in the Northwest and beyond. By the
mid 1960s a more formal structure of support and formation for them began to evolve. In
1975 two more JVC offices were established, one by the Maryland, New York, and New
England Provinces, and the other by the Wisconsin, Detroit, Chicago, and Missouri
Provinces. By 1980, the California and New Orleans Provinces had established JVC programs.
The Jesuit Volunteers International office, which relates to the U.S. Assistancy as a whole,
began in 1984, and places Jesuit volunteers in developing countries throughout the world.
For more than 45 years, Jesuit volunteers have worked in Jesuit social and educational apostolates,
but JVC has also responded to needs of other schools and social service agencies
where Jesuit volunteers bring the Jesuit name and Ignatian charism to hundreds more settings,
involving Jesuit volunteers in virtually every kind of social justice enterprise. Almost
450 Jesuit volunteers each year work in 55 cities and locales in the United States and in 11
developing countries of the world.
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps is keenly aware that as the number of Jesuits decreases,we have
resources to offer to the Society of Jesus in the United States. JVC desires to respond to the
needs of the church, to be available to Jesuits in new endeavors, and to promote the
Society’s needs among our growing number of former Jesuit volunteers. That is our primary
motivation for creating this document to share with Jesuits throughout the U.S.
Assistancy.

Identity
Jesuit and Ignatian Influences in the
Jesuit Volunteer Corps
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps is deeply grateful for the vision and leadership of the Society of
Jesus that has made JVC the successful organization it is. From our beginning, the Society
has actively participated in the fundamental mission of JVC. Many talented Jesuits have
contributed to the success of this program. Jesuits share with the organization and with the
volunteers who they are, their spiritual and apostolic inheritance, and their friendship.
We understand that our Jesuit foundation is the strongest dimension of our identity, our
mission, and our spirituality. By association we have benefitted from the good name of the
Society and we recognize our awesome responsibility that goes with the name Jesuit. We
offer our full support, encouragement, and friendship to the Society and remain grateful for
the Kingdom that is at hand and the Kingdom that is yet to come.
Jesuits participate at every level of our program. Provincial representatives are part of the
governance of JVC at the level of regional boards and the Jesuit Conference. Jesuits provide
training and professional development to our staffs and work with the volunteers as presenters
at our formation retreats and workshops. They provide local support and spiritual
guidance to JVC communities. Many Jesuits help recruit students to become Jesuit volunteers.
Jesuit provinces and many Jesuit institutions provide financial resources for the operation
of the JVC program.
Most of all, the gift of Ignatian spirituality animates the JVC program and the life of volunteers
themselves. JVC wants to be faithful to this world-affirming, incarnational spirituality
as we work with the volunteers, particularly as we help them reflect on the realities of
the poor, on social change, and in their own discernment about how to use their gifts and
talents to promote a faith that does justice.
JVC staff over the past ten years have systematically sought to be steeped in Ignatian spirituality
and methodology to honor and take responsibility for our heritage and better prepare
ourselves to create solid formation programs for the volunteers.

We see the rapid growth of volunteer programs modeled after the Jesuit Volunteer Corps as
a grace of our day. We find this outgrowth of JVC through many religious communities
enhances our participation in the indispensable work of preparing the Church of the Laity.
Formation
Promoting Justice in the Service of Faith
JVC maintains a healthy tension between being an apostolic program and a formation program.
Jesuit volunteers (ninety-five percent of whom are recent college graduates) are
attracted to the work for social justice in the context of the JVC program. Their contribution
to schools and social service agencies is significant. JVC is also a formation program,
one that exposes volunteers to the suffering of innocent people and helps the volunteers
reflect on that work in the light of the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching.
In recent years studies have been conducted to assess the effect of the JVC experience and
its formation on men and women who have been Jesuit volunteers. At the heart of the formation
is Ignatian spirituality and the promotion of a faith that does justice.
The sociological research in the 1990s on the spirituality of the JVC by Si Hendry, S.J. (for
his dissertation,“The History and Spirituality of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps,”at the Graduate
Theological Union), illustrates the pervasiveness of JVC as an on-going influence in the
person’s commitment to prayer, social justice, and communities of faith. A study in 2000
by Tom Gaunt, S.J.,who surveyed 1,400 former Jesuit volunteers (1975 to 2000) showed that
the four values of JVC, once inculcated, endure over time. Gaunt found it remarkable that
the one (or two) year experience of JVC produces more “influential people” in a person’s life
than family, school, work place, church or any other relationships, and that these relationships,
too, endure over time.
Ignatian spirituality informs and inspires the very nature of the conversion, the desired
realization in the hearts and minds of Jesuit volunteers.Above all else, JVC is a faith-based
program. Jesuit volunteers have the opportunity to participate in communal and individual
prayer and grow in the interior life individually and with others in the community.
Spiritual direction is available to volunteers, and they make directed retreats in the Ignatian
tradition.

Through theological reflection and social analysis, the JVC experience is designed to
include discernment skills, the preferential option for the poor, and a deepening friendship
with Jesus.
With the help of Jesuit and lay presenters utilizing Ignatian methodologies, JVC presents a
formation and support program that encourages life-long discipleship in the Ignatian tradition.
We acknowledge that most Jesuit volunteers come from and have been fully socialized in
the context of global wealth, power, and culture. We see that even serving as a Jesuit volunteer
and forgoing a salary for one year is an economic luxury afforded to few. Therefore,we
ask volunteers to reflect on their own privilege, cultivate a critical awareness of their own
social agency, disentangle themselves from sinful social structures, and work for structural
change in the United States. Our priority is to form leaders committed to faith and justice
in the emerging Church of the Laity.
The leadership of JVC has read with particular interest the statements of Pedro Arrupe, S.J,
concerning Jesuit alumni as “men for others,” and Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.’s address at
Santa Clara University in October 2000. We have been challenged by their articulation that
the critical measure of Jesuit educational projects is who the students become and how they
participate in the world. The JVC experience, too, must animate significant on-going life
decisions pertaining to faith,work, and commitment to a common good, which transcends
personal gain and individual autonomy.
Today former Jesuit volunteers are engaged in virtually every kind of profession, according
to their talents. Many work in Jesuit apostolates: higher education, secondary education,
Nativity schools, parishes, province staffs, etc.
Exploring New Apostolic Initiatives
The first Jesuit volunteers were coworkers with Jesuits in their apostolates. Forty-seven
years later, Jesuit volunteers continue to work in Jesuit social and educational apostolates.
Many more are bringing the Jesuit name and Ignatian charism to hundreds of social justice
and advocacy projects. Almost 450 Jesuit volunteers each year work in 32 states across the

United States, and in 11 developing countries throughout the world. Our apostolic roots in
the Society of Jesus are deeply valued and we desire to find ways to further assist Jesuits in
the social apostolates. We stand ready to be of greater service to the provincials in the U.S.
Assistancy in new and creative ways. We offer the following concrete ideas:
■ JVC welcomes new opportunities to deepen collaboration with the social ministries
assistants, with the Jesuit Commission on Social and International Ministries, and with the
Jesuit Conference.
■ JVC wishes to actively work throughout the Assistancy to develop volunteer placements
in Jesuit ministries.
■ JVC offers its executive directors -- where desired and appropriate -- to the service of
apostolic planning at the local,province, and Assistancy level; to serve on committees, as ad
hoc consultants, and in other ways that the Society might find useful.
■ JVC aspires to collaborate with local and national efforts of similar organizations such
as the Ignatian Lay Volunteer Corps, alumni service corps of Jesuit high schools, Nativitymodel
schools, and other emerging models where our experience would be helpful.
■ JVC offers our considerable resource of former Jesuit volunteers (FJVs) who may be
qualified candidates for positions within provinces, high schools, retreat centers, and social
apostolates. We are working on mechanisms to communicate needs of the province and
Jesuit institutions to the former Jesuit volunteers, and seek the counsel of the Society on any
ways that would assist in this effort.
■ JVC extends to provinces our network of contacts and experiences in social services and
advocacy.
■ JVC desires to collaborate with vocation promoters in each province. We wish to assist
the Society in reaching Jesuit volunteers who may be interested in exploring candidancy
programs.
■ JVC’s contacts might be useful to novice directors in arranging experiments of various
lengths. Also, the JVC welcomes the assignment of scholastics to work in a JVC office on
formation issues.
The Jesuit Volunteer Corps stands ready to work in partnership with the Society in new and
innovative ways which will enhance our mutual missions.We welcome continuing dialog to
explore new avenues within our relationship.
